Vent: I tried that 'no shampoo for a year' experiment and my hair is a disaster now
I saw people online saying it would make your hair healthier and self-regulate. I stuck with it for 8 months, using just water and a boar bristle brush. My scalp got so itchy and flaky, and my hair looked like a greasy helmet. I finally caved and washed it with a clarifying shampoo from the drugstore. It took three washes to feel normal. I learned that some internet trends are just not for everyone's biology. Has anyone else tried something like this and had it totally fail?

Yeah, the apple cider vinegar thing is just swapping one problem for another. It strips your hair so bad it feels like straw, and that vinegar smell sticks around forever no matter how much you rinse. These natural trends ignore that our water and environment are totally different now than a hundred years ago. My hair just needs actual shampoo, not a history lesson.

Ugh, that sounds miserable... I tried the "apple cider vinegar rinse" version and it was just as bad.

It's like we're all trying to solve new problems with old tools that just don't fit anymore, @dianas50. You see it with food trends and cleaning hacks too, where the simple fix makes a bigger mess. Maybe we should just use what works now.
