Realized I was gatekeeping my own hobby after a convo in Denver last month.

I used to think you needed a $2000 kit to start, but my friend built something awesome with a basic $150 setup. Am I the only one who made the scene feel way more expensive than it is?

My first home brewing kit was a plastic bucket and some hand-me-down bottles from my uncle. I spent maybe eighty bucks total. The beer wasn't great, but it got me started. Now I see people online saying you need a full stainless steel setup to even try, and it just isn't true. That basic gear taught me more than any fancy equipment could have.

Remember my buddy who started with a soup pot?

Wonder if this pressure to buy expensive gear comes from the people selling it. Did you find yourself reading a lot of fancy blogs or watching polished videos before you started, and did that shape what you thought was needed?
