Am I the only one who freaks out when people use duct tape for permanent fixes?

I see so many folks using duct tape to seal leaks or hold things together long-term. It might seem handy, but it fails when temperatures shift, and you're left with a gunked-up surface. Why not take the extra minute to use the right stuff?

Oh the "gunked-up surface" is the best part lmao. It's like they think silver sticky stuff is a universal forever glue, but really it's just a promise to your future self to spend an hour scraping off nasty black goo. Duct tape for permanent fixes is just a temporary fix with extra steps and regret.

Ugh, my friend's car mirror taped on by her dad proved @lilyh84 right, it just left a nasty mess later.

Duct tape gets a bad rap, but it's often the only option when you're in a pinch. I mean, it holds things together long enough to get by, which is all some people need. Sure, it leaves gunk later, but that's a small price for avoiding a bigger problem right away. Not everyone has the cash or time for a proper fix right when something breaks. It's meant to be temporary, and if it buys you time, then it did its job. Calling it a regret ignores how useful it can be in the moment.
