Just realized my flat earth debate was way off after one guy pointed out my math

I used to argue that the horizon curve proves everything, but last week some dude in the comments showed me my numbers were wrong. He said I used the wrong observer height for the calculation, like 5 feet instead of 6. I went back and re-did it with the right formula, and my whole argument fell apart. Now I'm rethinking how I even approach these debates because one simple fix changed my whole view. Has anyone else had a debate where one specific critique made you totally switch your stance?

Yeah I read this whole thing about how the human eye can't actually resolve curvature at sea level, and the math backs it up hard. I mean, we're talking something like a 0.02 degree drop over a mile, which is basically nothing for our eyes to pick up. That's what got me, because I used to think I could see it on a clear day from the coast. After reading some science blogs about how cameras with specific lenses can trick you into seeing curvature too, it's wild how easy it is to be wrong. So yeah, one good point about observer height can wreck a whole argument if you actually check the numbers.

So you really went back and recalculated everything yourself?

Notices how easy it is to trust bad math until you run it yourself, @rose_craig97.
