My foreman insisted on using a Klein VDV501-100 for every coax termination.
He said it was the only tool that wouldn't crush the dielectric, and after stripping a dozen connectors with my old crimper, I finally tried his. The signal loss on my meter dropped by 3 dB on the next three jobs. Anyone have a different tool they swear by for this?

Honestly, the bigger thing for me is the prep tool, not the crimper. If you nick the center conductor while stripping, you're already losing signal before you even crimp. Seen it happen a ton.

You know, I always focused on getting the crimp right. But you're totally correct about the prep tool being the real weak spot. A bad strip ruins everything before you even get started.
