That fancy $80 boning knife seemed like a rip off until I broke down a whole pig in 12 minutes flat

Had a coworker swear by it for months and I kept using my old $25 Victorinox until he handed me his to try on a tough shoulder and I literally stopped mid-cut to ask where he bought it.

Bought a cheap $15 knife set from a grocery store years ago and thought I was set for life until I tried to slice a ripe tomato and it just squished the pulp everywhere instead of cutting. My neighbor let me borrow her good knife one time and I swear I could hear angels singing when it went through that tomato like butter. Now I'm the crazy person who spends actual money on individual knives and keeps them in a magnetic strip on the wall where I can see them. My husband thinks I've lost my mind but he sure doesn't complain when dinner prep takes half the time.

Oh man, you just described my exact life! I read somewhere that a dull knife is actually more dangerous than a sharp one cause you have to push harder and it slips, which totally makes sense now. @margaret_jackson73 I'm right there with you on the magnetic strip thing, my friends think I'm showing off but really I just want my tomatoes to survive.

My grandmother had this one Wusthof knife that she used for 40 years and refused to let anyone else touch it. I didn't get why until she let me use it once and I nearly cried over how easily it cut through a butternut squash.
