Saw a custom post frame barn near Lincoln that changed my mind about trusses
Drove past this place off Highway 77 last weekend with a 40x60 post frame barn that had scissor trusses giving it like 14 feet of ceiling height inside. The owner said he did it for under $15k in materials. Has anyone else seen builders using scissor trusses for actual workshop space instead of just storage?

Funny enough, a friend near York put scissor trusses in his 36x48 shop and it turned into a full-on man cave with a loft for storage up top. He said the extra headroom made all the difference for parking his tractor with a cab on it. Might have to look into those trusses for my own place when I get around to building.

Pulled off the highway myself last spring to check out a place near Wahoo that had scissor trusses in a 30x50 building. The guy was using it as a wood shop (which I get, because dust collection is a nightmare in a low ceiling space). He said his total material cost was around $11k and he did all the framing himself over two weekends. It looked solid enough that I'm thinking about trying it for a future project, since standard trusses always feel like they're wasting half the vertical room.

That $11k figure sounds about right for a DIY build if you caught lumber at a good time. I'd double check your local building codes before you commit though, some inspectors get picky about scissor truss engineering stamps.
