My hostel bunk bed collapsed in Prague and I had to sleep on a yoga mat
So I was in Prague last fall, staying at this super cheap hostel to save money. I'm talking 12 euros a night cheap. The third night there, I'm climbing up to my top bunk and the whole wooden frame just gives out. It made this huge cracking sound and I ended up on the floor with a pile of wood and my mattress. The night manager just shrugged and handed me a spare yoga mat and a blanket. I spent the next two nights sleeping on that thin mat on the hard floor. My back was killing me, but I was too stubborn to pay for a new place. What's the weirdest makeshift bed you've had to use while traveling to stick to your budget?

Sounds like a rough night but not the end of the world. You got a free mat and a place to stay for twelve euros. Honestly, that's just part of the budget travel deal sometimes.

Oh wow, a free mat, what a luxury upgrade! Tbh, for twelve euros I'd expect at least a complimentary cockroach to keep me company. Yeah it's budget travel, but sometimes the "deal" feels more like you're paying for the chance to test your survival skills. Next time I'll just sleep on a park bench and save the cash for a real breakfast.

Yeah the free mat thing is classic. Been there. Always pack a lightweight sleeping bag liner now, the silk ones pack tiny. Takes the ick factor down when you're not sure about the sheets. A headlamp is key too for those late night hostel arrivals when you don't wanna wake the whole room. Makes a big difference for like no extra weight.
