Overheard a guy at the hardware store say he spent $50 on a single steak dinner and I just thought about my pot of chili simmering at home.
It made me realize my big pot of chili, which cost about $8 total and feeds me for three days, brings me just as much happiness as his fancy meal probably did.

But that steak was a special experience, not just fuel. Sometimes paying for a single great meal is worth more than three days of the same thing.

Oh man, @lilys82 you are SO right. That is the whole point people miss. A cheap meal just fills you up. A great one gives you a memory. I would rather eat beans for a week and have one perfect dinner than just be full all the time. Life is too short for boring food.

My buddy Dave saved up for months to try some famous burger that costs like thirty bucks. He said it was good, but the next week we were at a dive bar and he had the best grilled cheese of his life for five dollars. He still talks about that grilled cheese way more. Guess it proves you never really know where the good memory comes from.
