Rant: My neighbor said 'buying cheap tools is a waste' and I think he's missing the point

I was helping him fix a fence in Austin yesterday and he saw my $12 socket set from Harbor Freight. He told me, 'You'll just have to buy a real one when that breaks.' But I've had that set for two years and it's done every job I needed. For a casual user like me, spending $100 on a brand name doesn't make sense. When do you think it's actually worth paying more for a tool?

My cheap tools outlast my expensive hobbies (usually).
