My friend insisted I watch 'Monster' and I'm glad I listened

For years, my friend Mark kept telling me to watch the anime 'Monster' because he said the slow build was worth it. I finally started it last month and got through the first 15 episodes before it really clicked. Now I'm hooked on the story and characters. Has anyone else had a show recommended that took a while to get into but paid off?

That time a quiet guy in our book club totally flipped the script on 'The Great Gatsby'

We were meeting at the old library branch downtown about five years ago, and everyone was calling Gatsby a hopeless romantic. Then Mark, who barely ever spoke, just said, 'He's not in love with Daisy, he's in love with the IDEA of a rich past he never had.' It was so simple but it stopped the whole room. We argued for an hour about whether the green light was about a person or a dream. I still think about that line every time I reread a classic now. Has a single comment from a club member ever made you completely rethink a book's main character?

Honestly, my whole kraut game changed after a trip to my aunt's farm in Iowa.

I was helping her with the fall cabbage harvest and she just used her hands to pack it into a crock, no fancy tools. She said the warmth from your hands helps start the ferment better than any pounder. I tried it back home with a 5 pound head of cabbage and it bubbled way faster than my old method. Has anyone else tried hand packing instead of using a tamper?
