Generic store brand trash bags finally convinced me I was wrong

For years I bought the cheapest garbage bags at the dollar store. Thought I was saving money. Then last month I had a bag split open in my kitchen. Coffee grounds and eggshells everywhere. Cleanup took 45 minutes. Finally spent the extra $3 for the store brand medium duty ones. They actually hold up. Now I'm wondering what else I've been cheap about that costs me more in the long run. Any other budget buyers had that realization?

Right? Getting cheap toilet paper was my breaking point when I finally had to unclog the toilet myself.

That split bag with coffee grounds and eggshells is literally my nightmare. I had a similar wakeup call but it wasn't trash bags, it was my dish soap. Dollar store stuff left a film on everything and I had to use twice as much. The thing nobody talks about with being cheap is the hidden labor cost - like that 45 minutes you spent cleaning up. Time is money too even if you don't think of it that way. Sometimes paying a little more upfront saves you a whole lot of hassle later and that math actually works out better.

Nah, dollar store bags are fine if you don't overload them.
