Serious question, why does everyone push therapy so hard?

I spent about $800 on six sessions with a therapist in Boise, and honestly, it felt like paying for a friend who just nodded. I told them about my job stress, and all I got back were questions like 'how does that make you feel?' In my experience, a long hike with my dog did more for my head than those hours. Has anyone else tried something different that actually helped?

My old therapist in Austin was like that, just nodding and asking about feelings. I switched to a guy who gives actual homework, like tracking negative thoughts for a week. The right fit makes all the difference, but it can take a few tries to find it.

Totally feel you on that @kim191. My first therapist just kept asking "and how does that make you feel" on repeat. I started making up wild answers just to see if she was listening. Finding one who gives real tasks, like writing down stuff that triggers you, is a game changer. It's like going from a broken GPS to having actual street directions. Took me three tries to get it right.

Yeah @kim191 totally, that's the thing people don't mention - you basically gotta shop around for a therapist like you're test driving a used truck. I had one who just stared at me and I felt like I was paying to talk to a brick wall, but my buddy found one who texts him actual coping strategies between sessions.
