Stopped wearing shoes inside my own house after a trip to Japan

I used to think it was normal to track outside dirt everywhere... but spending a week in Osaka with a host family changed my mind. Now I have a strict no-shoe policy by the front door, and my mom thinks I'm being weirdly intense about it. Anyone else get a weird look for making people take their shoes off?

Honestly, that makes total sense. My whole family used to wear shoes inside growing up, and the floors were always kind of gross. After visiting a friend who had a no-shoe rule, I tried it for a week and the difference was crazy. The carpets just looked cleaner, and you didn't feel grit under your feet. Now I have a little shoe rack by the door and my dad still grumbles about it every time.

Absolutely, it's a total game changer. My old apartment had this gross beige carpet that showed every speck of dirt, and switching to no shoes made it look new again. The best part is just how much less cleaning you have to do, like you barely need to sweep. My partner's family thought it was weird at first too, but they got used to it pretty quick. Once you feel that clean floor under your feet, there's just no going back.

How many times did you have to mop before you made the switch? I bet it was at least twice a week to keep up with the tracked-in dirt. That's a huge time save just from having a shoe rack.
