Just realized I spent 4 hours fixing a ceiling fan because I didn't check the pull chain first
Ngl, I was ready to rewire the whole thing and even called my buddy Mike from Tampa for advice. Turns out the chain was just stuck between the blades from the last time I cleaned it. Took me 4 hours on a Saturday to figure out something that took 10 seconds to fix. Has anyone else spent way too long on something that simple?

Jumped into a similar situation with my car last winter. Spent two days trying to figure out why the engine was sputtering every time I turned the key. Checked the fuel pump, the alternator, the spark plugs. Even had it towed to a mechanic who couldn't find it either. Then my neighbor looked under the hood and pointed out the battery cable was barely loose. I felt like a complete ahole watching him tighten it with a wrench in 30 seconds. Four hours is rough but at least you didn't pay a tow truck.

You know, I used to be the type who thought I could fix anything myself, no matter how long it took. That's how I ended up spending a whole Saturday swapping out my car's starter because I was convinced that was the problem. Turned out, just like your battery cable, it was a loose ground wire. I felt like an idiot watching a guy at the auto parts store point at it. It really changed my mind about just accepting the time sink and getting a second set of eyes on it sooner. Four hours of your life gone for something that simple just stings.

Man I feel this in my bones. Same thing happened to me last month with my garage door opener. Spent a solid 3 hours on YouTube and had the remote taken apart on my workbench. Turns out the batteries were just dead but they looked fine because they weren't corroded. My wife walked in and asked if I checked the batteries and I just stood there feeling dumb.
