Warning: I thought talking to plants was a total joke until my basil went nuts

My friend swore her plants grew better when she chatted with them, and I laughed it off. Last month, my basil plant was looking sad, so I gave it a pep talk every morning for a week while watering. I kid you not, it doubled in size and got way bushier. Now I'm the weirdo mumbling to my mint on the patio. Has anyone else tried this and had it actually work, or did I just get lucky?

Honestly, I've gotta disagree on this one. I had a basil plant that took off like crazy too, but it was just because I finally got the sunlight and fertilizer right. I think when we start talking to plants, we just pay way more attention to them. We notice if the soil is dry or if a leaf looks funny, and we fix it faster. The plant was probably just happy you were watering it properly for a full week straight. It's a cool story, but I'm pretty sure the growth came from the care, not the chat.
