I picked linen thread over synthetic and I don't get the hype around poly
Everybody in my local guild keeps raving about synthetic thread for its strength and stretch. I tried it on a rebind of a 400 page novel and honestly, I hated it. The thread kept slipping around my kettle stitches and I had to redo several sections because it didn't grip like linen does. Sure, it won't snap as easy, but I'll take a clean, tight stitch any day. My mentor told me "linen's been good enough for 200 years" and I think he's right. Has anyone else gone back to natural thread after trying the new stuff?

Tried poly once and my book block looked like a toddler did the stitching. Linen's got that nice rough texture that actually stays put. Plus my fingers don't cramp up as bad trying to yank it tight every two seconds. Guess I'm just a old school dork who likes thread that doesn't fight back.

Linen's like that friend who shows up early and actually helps move the couch. Polyester thread reminds me of those modern gadgets that promise to make life easier but end up fighting you the whole time. Sometimes the old ways just plain work better because they don't need you to outsmart them.
