Found out how much glue a big print shop uses in a year

Was talking to a guy who runs a print shop in Cincinnati. He said they go through about 500 gallons of PVA glue just for binding each year. That number blew my mind. I only use a few ounces per book. It made me think about the scale of commercial work versus what we do at home. Really puts my little glue pot into perspective. Anyone else ever get a shock from seeing how the pros do volume?

But is it really that impressive? A big shop doing big numbers just means they have more glue pots... it's the same work, just multiplied. Nelson.wesley's fryer oil example is the same thing, just more of it. The scale changes but the skill doesn't.

Yeah that scale is wild. Reminds me of when I saw a restaurant go through a whole drum of fryer oil in a week. Just a totally different world from home cooking.

Man that's so true. I tried doing a big fish fry for a family reunion once and went through like three giant bottles of oil in a day. My kitchen was a greasy mess for a week. You just don't realize how much volume they're dealing with until you try to copy it at home. Makes you respect what they do.
