Tried watching a show on 1.5x speed and it ruined the whole vibe

I had this huge backlog of shows I wanted to get through, so I figured I'd speed things up by watching them at 1.5x speed. Started with season 1 of The Diplomat since everyone says it's slow at first... man, the dialogue just felt rushed and weird, like everyone was in a hurry. I made it through 4 episodes before I turned it back to normal speed and realized I missed half the subtle jokes and tense pauses. Now I'm rewatching those episodes at normal speed and it's like a totally different show. Lesson learned: some shows need their natural pacing to land right, especially dramas with a lot of talking. Anyone else tried this and regretted it, or found a show that actually works better sped up?

Learned that lesson the HARD way myself and it totally kills the mood.

Three times over the past year my partner tried to spring the "surprise romantic dinner" thing on me after a 12 hour shift. First time I got home, there's candles everywhere and she's all dressed up. I just wanted a shower and bed. Felt like a jerk but that whole setup stressed me out more than relaxed me. I get that some people love that stuff, but is it really relationship ending if you're not in the mood for it? Seems like a pretty normal thing to have happen once or twice.

Three times over the past year" and "she's all dressed up" makes me wonder... @the_pat has she actually sat down and talked with you about this after the first or second time? Like did she ever ask if you'd rather do the surprise thing on a day off instead of pushing through it?
