I hit episode 47 of a show and suddenly realized I had no clue what was happening

I was binge watching this sci-fi series called Dark Matter on Prime and around episode 47 I realized I had lost the plot completely. The timeline jumps and character doppelgangers piled up so fast I couldn't keep anyone straight. I rewound about 10 minutes and still felt like I missed something big. Has anyone else hit a wall like that where you just accept you'll never fully understand the story?

I hit that exact wall around episode 38 of a show called 12 Monkeys. The whole thing with the different timelines and the paradox where you see the same character die three different ways just broke my brain. I sat there for a solid five minutes trying to figure out if the main guy was actually his own dad or just a clone. At some point you just have to lean back and enjoy the ride even if you can't explain a single thing to anyone else. That feeling of accepting the chaos is almost freeing once you stop trying to map it all out in your head.

Oh man, you just made me rethink everything. I used to be the type who would pause and rewind trying to piece every timeline together like a puzzle. I thought if I just focused hard enough it would all click into place. But your description of that 12 Monkeys wall, especially the character dying three different ways, hit home. I remember trying to map out a show called Dark and got so tangled I almost gave up on the whole genre. Reading your take changed my mind though. You're right, that moment of letting go and just watching the chaos is strangely liberating. I've been fighting it for years and now I see the appeal of just leaning back and enjoying the ride.

Hold up. I gotta say, @the_sam actually mentioned 12 Monkeys first in the thread, it was his whole post that got this rolling. But yeah, I feel you on Dark. I tried to draw that family tree on a napkin once and gave up halfway through. The crazy part is once you stop treating it like homework, the whole experience gets way more fun. I used to get mad at myself for missing details, but now I just accept that some stuff is supposed to be messy.
