I brought smoked pork to a wedding and it tasted like cake

I was so proud of this pork shoulder I smoked for my friend's outdoor wedding. I mean, I got up at 4 AM to start it, and the bark looked amazing. But they put me next to the dessert table under a tent. The wind kept blowing frosting and cake crumbs all over my serving tray. By the time people ate it, the meat had this sweet, weird flavor. Everyone was polite but I saw their confused faces, like they didn't know what to say. Maybe it's just me but I won't make that mistake again.

Place your tray upwind to avoid cake contamination.

My friend learned this the hard way at a beach picnic last year. A gust of wind blew a ton of fine sand right into her gorgeous lemon cake (it was a whole thing). Honestly, @the_eric, she should have followed your advice about the upwind tray placement. We spent the next ten minutes picking grit out of the frosting.
