Wasted $80 on a cheap clipper blade sharpener

Bought one of those handheld sharpeners from a trade show in Atlanta thinking it'd save me trips to the sharpener guy. After 3 blades, it ruined the edge on two of them and now I'm out money and blades. Anyone else had better luck with a different brand?

Oh, come on now. You really think every single thing at a trade show is just fluff and hype, or have you actually found a few gems over the years that made it worth your time? I've been to my share, and I'll admit the sales pitches get old fast, but sometimes you stumble onto a tool or a technique that actually changes how you work for the better. What's your main criteria for deciding something's junk versus something that's worth a second look?
