TIL that most home ovens run 25-50 degrees off from the dial

I finally bought an oven thermometer last weekend after suspecting my cakes were underbaking. Turns out my oven runs 40 degrees hotter than the dial says. Have you guys checked yours with a separate thermometer?

My 12 year old Kenmore runs 35 degrees hot. I found out the hard way when I tried to bake cookies for a party and they came out like hockey pucks. I ended up buying a cheap thermometer from the grocery store and just started adjusting the dial down by 40 degrees every time. Now I write the real temp on a sticky note stuck to the front of the oven so I don't forget.

My old GE oven runs about 50 degrees cold, so I've got the opposite problem. I ended up taping a conversion chart right above the bake button so I don't have to guess anymore. At least your sticky note system means you'll never have another hockey puck cookie disaster.
