That time I swore online dating was a scam until my cousin met her husband on it
I was super skeptical about dating apps for years. My cousin Mandy signed up for one back in 2018 and told me she had a good feeling about this guy she'd been talking to for a month. I rolled my eyes and told her to be careful, that people lie all the time. Well, they got married last June at a little park in Portland, and I was the one catching the bouquet. I guess my whole 'it's all fake' attitude was wrong, but I still wonder how many bad dates she had to wade through to get there. Has anyone else been proven dead wrong about something in dating?

My best friend swore up and down that those personality matching algorithms were garbage. She went on like 20 terrible dates in three months. One guy showed up in full hiking gear for coffee, like he was about to summit Everest for a latte. Then she met someone who also thought pineapple on pizza was a war crime, and they've been together for two years now. I still think most of those compatibility quizzes are just for fun though, you know?

20 bad dates in three months is honestly rough but kind of normal. I mean my cousin Mandy went on like 15 before she found her husband and two of those guys were literally still living with their exes. The hiking gear thing is hilarious though, that guy probably thought he was being quirky or something. I guess with those matching quizzes its like the lottery, sometimes you get a winner sometimes you get a dude who wears carabiners on his belt loop for no reason. I still think most of it comes down to luck and how much you're willing to sit through small talk about whether pineapple belongs on pizza. But hey, if someone hating pineapple pizza is what it takes to find love then maybe we should all just be more upfront about our pet peeves from the start.

Saw a study saying matching algorithms barely beat random chance. Feliz824 got a point.
