PSA: My uncle grilled the turkey at Thanksgiving and served it medium rare
Had to warn three cousins who already took a bite before I noticed pink juices running across the platter at our family gathering in Boise last month, has anyone else dealt with a relative who clearly has no idea what safe poultry temps look like?

Read my cousin's text from last Thanksgiving and had to spit it out into a napkin. My aunt served a turkey that was straight up raw in the middle, like still had that translucent pink look you see on a chicken breast that isn't cooked. She swore it was "how the pioneer women did it" which I don't even know where she got that from. I've never seen a table clear so fast once people realized what was happening.

So I actually had to deal with something almost identical last year. My sister's boyfriend brought a "smoked" turkey that was basically raw in the middle. I just grabbed my phone and showed her the FDA poultry temps page. Made a little joke like "the pioneers probably had salmonella too" and she actually laughed. Next year she let me borrow her meat thermometer and showed her how to check the thigh. Smooth move, no drama.
