That $200 I spent on a fancy umbrella that flipped inside out on the first gust of wind downtown
It was supposed to be indestructible, but 30 seconds after I stepped out of the coffee shop, the whole thing bent backward and snapped, and now I'm back to using the $5 gas station ones like a normal person.

It's just an umbrella though, they all break eventually (right?).

That line about "they all break eventually" is exactly the thing - we've been trained to accept that stuff is disposable now, even when we pay a premium for something that should last. It's like the whole world runs on planned obsolescence and we're just supposed to shrug and move on.
