Talked with a retired repair guy at the hardware store about old parts

I ran into a guy named Frank at Ace Hardware last week, looking for a replacement door latch for a 1990s Kenmore dryer. He said he used to run his own shop and told me he kept a 'bone yard' of three scrapped machines just for parts. He said, 'You can't get half those bits anymore, and the new ones don't fit right.' It made me realize I toss old units too fast. Has anyone else started holding onto specific old models for cannibalization?

My garage is basically a tech graveyard at this point... I'm the reason my wife can't park her car.

Hey, at least your tech hoard is climate controlled!

Lol same here. My garage is a graveyard of old game consoles and laptops I swear I'll fix someday. At least your spouse can't park in there either.
