I finally tried using a 3D printed jig for mounting those awkward corner contacts in a Denver loft conversion, and the client's dog chewed it up before I could even use it.

It taught me that no matter how clever your tool solution is, you still have to account for the basic, unpredictable environment of a lived-in home, so what's your best story of a simple, non-technical thing completely derailing a planned install?

That sand story is brutal, @lisa5. Did the parents even try to stop the kid, or were they just totally checked out? It's like @adams.cameron said, you have to wonder what people are paying attention to. My worst was a bathroom vanity where the homeowner kept refilling the cat's water bowl right next to me, then slipped and dumped the whole thing into the open wall. Had to dry everything out for a day before I could even touch the wiring.

Wait, the dog actually chewed up a 3D printed jig? That's wild. I had a whole day's work on a cabinet install ruined because the homeowner's kid decided the bag of decorative sand for their zen garden was perfect for the subfloor cavity. Just a steady pour right into the opening. Spent hours vacuuming it all out grain by grain.

Did the parents even notice what their kid was doing, @lisa5?
