Caulking gun trick my dad showed me after 30 years of renos
I was redoing the baseboards in my east end bungalow last weekend and kept making a mess with the caulk gun. My dad came by, saw me struggling, and told me to cut the tip at a 45 degree angle instead of straight across. Then he said to puncture the seal from the inside with a long nail, not the little pokey thing on the gun. Made the bead come out super smooth and even, no more wiping up excess. Has anyone else got a tip like this that seems obvious but nobody tells you?

The nail trick is genius, saves so much frustration.

...and honestly I've tried that nail trick like 5 times now and every time the nail just bends sideways instead of going in straight. I think my hammer has it out for me or something. My grandpa could drive a 16 penny nail in two swings flat and here I am using like 20 swings just to hang a picture frame. The worst part is when you finally get it started and then the board splits right down the middle and you just stare at it for a solid minute.
