PSA: My neighbor yelled 'kill your darlings' at his cat and it clicked for me

He was trying to get his cat, Mr. Whiskers, off the kitchen counter in Seattle. He kept shouting that phrase. I realized I've been holding onto a 15-page prologue in my draft that does nothing. It's my darling. I need to cut it. Anyone else have a weird moment that made a writing rule finally make sense?

Was it a calico or just a regular cat?

My colorblind self can barely tell a calico from a tabby.

Honestly troythompson has a point, it's a real question. Calicos are a specific color pattern, not a breed, so a lot of people mix it up. They need those three colors, white, orange, and black. If it's missing one, it's probably a tortoiseshell or something else. I mean, my neighbor's cat looks calico from far away but up close it's just a messy tabby. Makes you look twice.
