Can we talk about my kimchi smelling like feet?

My kimchi has a strong foot smell after a week, and I'm unsure if that's normal for fermentation.

Feel your pain on that one, my last batch had a serious locker room vibe going on. It kind of freaked me out too, but it did eventually settle down after another few days (the smell, I mean, not my fear). That sulfur-y note is pretty common, especially if it's fermenting really fast somewhere warm. Give it a little more time and see if it gets better.

Honestly I read somewhere that the foot smell comes from a specific bacteria that shows up early. It's usually not a bad sign if there's no mold and the veggies look fine. Tbh my first batch smelled like old gym socks for a solid week before it turned into that good sour smell. Just give it a bit longer and keep tasting a tiny bit every couple days.

Yeah, that can happen sometimes with homemade batches.
