TIL my buddy's kid thought we were building a castle wall, not a fence

We were putting up a simple wood fence in his backyard. His son brought out action figures and asked where the turrets go. The kid was CONVINCED we needed a gate for his imaginary horse. We had a good laugh explaining it's just to keep the dog in. Now he wants us to come back and build a real fort someday.

Okay but that's honestly the cutest thing. Kids see a fence and instantly it's a castle wall, like their brains are wired for fun. My niece once thought a cardboard box was a spaceship for hours. You gotta promise to build that fort someday, it'll be a core memory for him. Just watching them play makes you remember how simple joy can be.

Totally! I read something about that once. How kids' brains are still building connections, so they just see possibilities everywhere. Like the fence isn't just a fence yet. It's kinda beautiful when you think about it. We lose that so hard as adults.

Core memory" is so true, it's the best part.
