The worst part about a bad shoeing job is the cleanup three days later
Last week in Springfield, I had to fix a horse that another guy had shod with nails way too long. The owner called me when the horse started limping bad. I pulled the shoes and found three nails had gone into the sole, and the whole hoof wall was cracked. Has anyone else had to deal with a mess like that from someone else's work?

Actually, @lilys82, the infection risk is the real time bomb.

That cracked wall is the real long term problem. It's not just the current pain, it's that the hoof has to grow out that whole damaged section now. You're basically managing a weak spot for months until it grows past the hairline.
