Serious question, a trainer at the Kentucky Derby said 'a shoe is only as good as the foot it's fitted to' and it's been on my mind all week.
What's the most unexpected thing you've heard that changed how you look at a hoof before you even pick up a tool?

Honestly, that sounds like overthinking it. I just get in there and let the work tell me what it needs.

My old boss in Texas used to say a hoof is a window, not a door. I was so focused on just getting the job done, but he meant you have to look at the whole picture first. I remember watching him just stand there for five minutes, looking at how a horse shifted its weight in the stall. It changed everything for me. Now I always check the wear pattern on the ground before I even touch the leg.

So your boss basically told you to stop and smell the roses, but with horse feet. Love that.
