Overheard a guy at the feed store say he trims his own horse's feet to save money

I was grabbing some supplies in Springfield yesterday and this guy was telling his friend he trims his own horse every six weeks. He said, 'It's just like cutting nails, how hard can it be?' I kept my mouth shut, but man, that thinking is why we see so many messed up feet. It's not just about the length, it's about balance and knowing the angles. How do you guys handle it when you hear stuff like that?

I just showed him a picture of a horse with a bad trim and he shut right up.

Oh man, that's a disaster waiting to happen. Did he say anything about what he does for a horse that needs corrective work, or is he just hacking everything down to the same length?

Ugh, that's so frustrating. It's like some people just see hooves as blocks of wood to be chopped down, not a living part of the horse. You can always tell when someone doesn't understand balance and angles. Really makes you wonder how many horses are out there sore because of a bad trim.
