Just realized my 'quick fix' for a squeaky floor made it worse

I tried that old trick of sprinkling baby powder between the boards in my living room to stop the noise. It just turned into a gritty paste that ground into the finish and now the squeak is louder. Anyone know a real fix for oak floors?

Classic case of a life hack backfiring (those are almost never as easy as they look). For oak floors, you might need to find the joist underneath and drive a screw down through the board to pull it tight.

Yeah, those quick fixes always get me too. Tried the ice cube trick on a carpet dent once and just made a wet spot. My floorboard squeak fix involved a whole can of talcum powder before I gave up. Guess some things just need the right tool, not a viral video hack. What did you end up doing for yours?

Used to think those hacks were just as good as the real fix. Watching a pro use an actual floor nailer on my squeaky stairs changed that view fast. Sometimes you just need the proper tool.
