Hot take: My toilet paper roll phone stand was a complete fail

Honestly, I saw this hack online for making a phone stand from empty toilet paper rolls. I had a bunch so I cut them up and taped them together. Tbh, it looked okay at first but when I put my phone on, the whole thing just crumpled. My phone slid off and hit the floor pretty hard. The cardboard was too flimsy and my tape job was not strong enough. I tried adding more tape but it just made it wobbly and weird. After that mess, I went and got a cheap stand from the store. Ngl, some life hacks sound good but end up causing more trouble.

What kind of phone do you have and did it get damaged from the fall? Those cardboard roll hacks always seem better on video than in real life, they never account for actual phone weight. I have to ask, after you bought the real stand, did it make you even more annoyed at the time you wasted on the DIY one? It's like the hack sets you up to fail so you just go spend money anyway.

Ugh, those videos never show the real struggle. They use perfect materials and skip the part where your glue needs to dry for five hours. It's not just phone weight, it's angles and balance too. My take is they make the hack look quick so you feel dumb buying the solution, which was the goal all along.
