Watching my parents hide their money stress for years made me decide to be open about my own $500 overdraft fee last month.
Pretending everything is fine just makes you feel alone, but telling my sister about the bank mistake and the panic it caused actually helped us both admit we're scared of our student loans.

Forgot my own rule and started telling a coworker about my overdraft while we were getting coffee. She just pulled out her phone and showed me her bank app. Three of them in the red. Guess who split a sandwich for lunch that day?

Honestly, how many of us are walking around pretending money stuff is fine when it's actually a huge weight? My mom did that her whole life and it just taught me to be quiet too. Tbh, telling one person about a late bill last year felt like a huge risk, but it made that fear way smaller. It's like we're all scared to say it first, but once someone does, you realize you're not failing alone. That silence makes everything feel so much worse than it needs to be.

That "pretending it's fine" thing is my life, I once ate ramen for a week before admitting I couldn't afford takeout.
