Told my wife the DIY fence project would take a weekend. That was three months ago.
I figured a simple cedar fence around our backyard in Portland would be a straight shot. Digging the first post hole I hit a buried concrete slab from an old shed nobody told me about. After renting a jackhammer and busting through that, I realized the ground slopes way more than I thought. Three months and two trips to the ER for a stitched finger later, the fence is finally done. Has anyone else had a simple home project spiral into a nightmare because of something hidden underground?

Did your buddy have to deal with the city too? A friend of mine in Seattle started digging for a small retaining wall and found an old sewer pipe that nobody had on record. He had to stop everything, call the city, and wait two weeks for some inspector to come out and tell him it was abandoned. Then he hit a massive tree root that was way thicker than his arm and had to rent a stump grinder just for that one spot. By the time he finished, his wife had already spent the fence money on a new couch instead.

@parker_park8 honestly sounds like he was trying to find stuff to complain about.

Honestly sounds like one of those stories that gets bigger every time he tells it. Probably could've just gone around the root and been done in a weekend.
