Dad advice is usually annoying until it saves you a grand. Sounds like you learned the expensive way. Bet that friend got real distant after the loan. Money and friends just don't mix.

Tbh that's exactly what happened to me a few years back. Lent a buddy from college $500 for rent and he swore he'd have it back in two weeks. Six months later he was dodging my texts and acting weird whenever we ran into each other. Haven't talked to him since. Ngl it stung more losing the friendship than the money. Some people just can't handle owing someone and it ruins everything. Better to just say no up front and keep the peace.

Actually, my best friend paid me back every cent and we're still close. I get what you're saying, @gibson.elizabeth, but it really depends on the person. Some friends are totally worth the risk.
