I had to choose between a big spa and my own tiny studio

After my license, a fancy spa in the city offered me a spot, but the pay was mostly tips and they wanted me to push their brand. I opened my own 300 square foot studio in my hometown instead, using my own savings. It was slow for the first six months, but now I set my own hours and pick every product myself. Has anyone else gone solo and felt that initial panic was worth it?

Wait, is the pay at those fancy spots really mostly tips? I thought they had a higher base rate to match the high service prices. That's wild if they're paying you like a restaurant server. Your own studio sounds way better even if the start was scary.

Set your own hours and pick every product yourself" is the dream. I used to think the big name places were the only way to go, but hearing your story really changed my mind. That initial panic sounds totally worth it.

Totally get that shift in thinking. Honestly just started with one small thing I loved, and the rest sort of built from there. The freedom really does make the early stress fade fast.
