Warning: the cook at my local diner said my $7 breakfast order was costing him money, so I changed one thing

There was a piece in the Tulsa World a while back about diners getting squeezed on food costs, and bacon came up as one of the worst items because pork prices jumped so much. A server at a place off Route 66 said regulars used to get a free slice or two with eggs, and they had to kill that perk just to stay open. $1.50 for a side is fair if that is what keeps the lights on, but it stings when it used to be free. I have seen spots around here start charging for extra tortillas too, which never used to happen.
