Best and worst days on the job - my Monday was a total roller coaster
Started Monday morning swapping out a panel in a 1970s house. Wired everything perfect, flipped the main breaker, and a hornet nest I didn't see blew up in my face. Three stings later I'm running out the door. Came back after lunch and the homeowner handed me a $100 tip for finishing the job despite the chaos. So which side wins out - the bad start or the good finish? Has anyone else had a day that swung that hard both ways?

Those hornets don't count as a panel swap issue" - I gotta gently push back on that one. If they're living inside the panel box or right behind it, that's part of the job site you didn't know about until it blew up, so it definitely counts as a bad start. The good finish with the $100 tip is still a win though, you earned it.

Those hornets don't count as a "panel swap issue" though, they were just nesting nearby.

...and that reminds me of the time I was doing a simple outlet swap at my sister's place and there was a whole family of raccoons living in her attic. I mean, not directly in the walls where I was working, but they were scratching around up there the whole time. My nephew kept asking if the ghosts were coming to get him. Took me twice as long because I kept jumping at the noise and dropping my tools.
