Appreciation post: That time I dropped a full sheet in a finished basement

It was a tight corner in a Bellevue remodel, and the edge tore right into the fresh paint on a support beam. I mixed a small batch of compound, feathered it out, and the homeowner never noticed. Anyone have a better fix for a gouge like that?

Honestly that's a pro move right there, the old 'feather and pray' method. I would have probably just smeared some toothpaste in it like a college dorm wall fix and hoped they didn't lean on it. Your way sounds less likely to smell minty fresh for no reason.

Haha, I've totally used toothpaste on a wall before!

My uncle's a painter in Tacoma and he swears by a tiny bit of clear nail polish over the touch-up paint. Seals the edge so it doesn't flash differently under the light.
