Had a veteran operator tell me my pump setup was garbage and he was right
So I been running my own dredge for about 3 years now, mostly on small pond jobs in the suburbs. Thought I had everything figured out until I pulled up to a job outside of Houston last month and this old timer who was subcontracted for the same job took one look at my suction line and laughed. He said I had way too many 90 degree bends and that I was choking my flow before it even hit the pump. I had like 4 of them in a row trying to snake around the bank. He showed me how to use two 45s instead of one 90 and reroute the whole line straighter. Cut my cycle time by almost 30 percent on the first day. Made me feel like a rookie but I learned more in 10 minutes than I did in years of trial and error. Anyone else had some old head just wreck their confidence with a simple fix like that?
