TIL my layer naming system was a total mess for 2 years
I was showing a new hire how to pull up a site plan in AutoCAD and he just stared at the screen for a minute. He finally asked, 'Why is the property line on a layer called X-ANNO-TEXT?' That's when it hit me - my system made zero sense to anyone but me. I had been using random codes I made up back in 2020. It took us an extra 20 minutes just to find the sewer lines. How do you guys set up your layers so they're actually clear?

Sometimes a messy system works fine if you know it.

Totally get what you mean, angela_miller75! My spice cabinet is a total disaster zone, jars shoved in every which way. My partner says it's chaos, but I can always find the cumin in two seconds flat because I know my own mess. It might look broken to someone else, but the system works perfectly for the person who built it.

Two seconds to find the cumin in a total mess... that's actually kind of amazing. My brain just doesn't work that way at all. If my stuff isn't in a straight line I start to panic a little. I guess some people really do have a map in their head for the chaos.
