My attempt to build a custom desk shelf ended with me using cardboard and duct tape

Was at Lowe's last week pricing out hardwood for a nice live-edge desk shelf. Got home, cut the first board wrong, tried to fix it with a pocket hole jig, and snapped the wood in half. Now I've got a rolling pin shelf thing made from a cardboard box and silver tape. It actually holds my monitor fine. Has anyone else had a planned project turn into a total hack job but still worked out?

Has anyone tried adding a second layer of cardboard for extra weight support? I doubled up mine and it actually feels solid enough for a heavy monitor. Just make sure the tape is tight on all the seams so it doesn't wobble.

Honestly that's basically what my monitor stand has been for the last two years, just a folded up Amazon box with tape. If it's stable and the height works, you're good.
