Hit 100 board feet of reclaimed lumber in my garage and now I get the obsession
I started collecting old pallets and barn wood about 8 months ago just for little projects. Last weekend I finally stacked and measured everything out of curiosity and hit exactly 100 board feet. That number surprised me because I never planned to hoard this much but here we are. It matters because now I can actually start planning real furniture builds without buying anything new. Anyone else accidentally become a lumber hoarder without meaning to?

Honestly I used to think reclaimed wood was just overpriced junk but now I get the obsession completely.

The best part about reclaimed wood nobody talks about is how it's basically carbon negative. New lumber means cutting down trees that are actively pulling carbon out of the air, but reclaimed stuff is already locked in from decades ago. Plus the patina and nail holes tell a story that new wood just can't fake. There's a reason old barn beams feel different to touch compared to something from Home Depot. It's like the wood has already settled and done its shrinking, so it won't warp or crack nearly as bad. That's the real win in my book.
