Shoutout to the random guy at Home Depot who saved my porch light
I was trying to swap out an old outdoor light fixture last week and nothing was lining up right. Dude walks by, sees me staring at the bracket, and says "you gotta loosen those screws first, theyre adjusters not locks." Honestly I thought he was just another know-it-all but I tried it anyway and the whole thing fit perfect in 2 minutes. Has anyone else gotten random advice from a stranger that actually worked out better than the youtube tutorials?

The best life hacks always come from strangers who've already failed at the same thing.

Old me would've just kept fighting with the bracket for an hour then blamed the manufacturer. That loose screw thing is the kind of trick you only learn from someone whos already been there. Now I actually stop and ask the older guys in the electrical aisle if they see me looking confused.

Did that old timer actually give you the tip or did you just catch him looking at the bracket funny first?

Dismissed that advice as old school nonsense for years. Then tried the loose screw trick on a ceiling fan install. Saved me twenty minutes of cussing. Still hate admitting the old timers were right but damn it works.
