Three days of rain and my sump pump finally taught me a lesson
I used to think those battery backup sump pumps were a waste of money until last Tuesday when the power went out at 3 AM and my basement took on 4 inches of water. Now I'm shopping for one and kicking myself for not listening to my neighbor who told me to get one after his own flood two years ago. Anyone else get convinced the hard way by a simple device?

Man, I learned that exact same lesson last year. Power went out during a storm, and I watched my basement fill up like a swimming pool while my regular pump just sat there useless. Now I've got a battery backup AND a generator, because once is enough for that kind of panic at 2 AM.

Did you check if your sump pump was on a GFCI breaker that could trip before the power went out?
